Equine Sports massage: whats it all about?

For thousands of years the ancient art of massage has been used to bring benefits to health and wellbeing. Until recently there has been little use of this amazing therapy on horses.

However a more holistic approach is now bring preferred by many trainers and riders. Massage together with other professions such as your farrier, vet, osteo/chiropractor all play an important role in providing this holistic approach.

The role of our horses has changed over the centuries, where as they were used mainly as transport and power, they are now mainly used in recreational activities.

This change in role often puts greater strain on our beloved horses eg more advanced dressage moves, jump higher or run faster. This expectation is undoubtedly going to take its toll on them, leaving them more at risk of injury. Sometimes the small strains go un-noticed until they accumulate into a larger problem or lameness. Massage can assist in identifying these issues and help prevent further damage and helps the horses body to heal him/herself.

Massage has the potential to help all horses from happy hackers to top competition horses and every horse in-between.
